Wall Street enters the week of October 12, 2026 with stocks near records, yields near multi-decade highs and oil well above $90. It is one of the busiest weeks of the quarter: the September inflation data, the start of third-quarter earnings season and a run of geopolitical headlines all land within five sessions.
Where markets stand on Monday
Stocks finished last week on a strong note. On Friday the S&P 500 rose 0.59% to 7,811.54, the Dow added 423.31 points, or 0.83%, to 51,654.95, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.64% to 27,366.17, according to Investing.com. The rally reached session highs after President Trump said Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed to supply diesel to the U.S. and global markets. TipRanks notes the Nasdaq has now risen four weeks in a row.
Monday morning was quieter. As of 5:46 a.m. EDT, S&P 500 futures were up 0.12%, Dow futures up 0.09% and Nasdaq 100 futures down 0.04%. Brent crude traded near $105.61 a barrel and WTI near $92.57 (TipRanks). Japan's market was closed for a holiday.
The backdrop is still tight. The 10-year Treasury yield was around 5.24% late Friday after recently touching its highest level in 24 years, and the Fed's September hike, its first since 2023, has been one driver (Investing.com). "Despite the geopolitical risk and interest rate uncertainty, Wall Street remains around record highs thanks to extraordinary (albeit highly concentrated) earnings growth," Capital.com analyst Kyle Rodda told TheStreet.
Economic calendar: CPI and PPI decide the Fed debate
- Wednesday, Oct. 14: September CPI. A Reuters poll cited by Investing.com expects annual inflation of 3.7%, with core at 2.5%. It is one of the last major data points before the Fed meets on Oct. 27-28 to decide whether to raise rates again.
- Thursday, Oct. 15: PPI and retail sales. PPI feeds into the Fed's preferred core PCE gauge. Economists expect retail sales to rise about 0.35%, or 0.2% excluding autos and fuel, per Investing.com, a read on how consumers handled higher gas prices and rates.
The gap between headline and core is the story. A 3.7% headline with a 2.5% core points to energy as the main source of inflation, which is why the oil tape matters as much as the CPI print itself.

The chip check: ASML and TSMC
Last week's wobble in AI stocks makes the semiconductor reports important. Investing.com says analysts expect ASML to earn $12.07 per U.S. share, up 89% year over year, on sales of $13.15 billion, up 51%. TSMC is expected to report $4.42 per U.S. share, up 55%, on sales of $45.44 billion, up 41%. These two are the first look at whether AI-driven capital spending is still accelerating before the megacap tech companies report later in the month. Netflix is not on this week's slate. It reports on Oct. 20, according to the company.
The earnings bar is very high
LSEG data cited by Investing.com shows S&P 500 earnings are expected to have jumped more than 30% in the third quarter. That is the support under record prices with a 5%-plus 10-year yield. When growth expectations are that high, a quarter that merely meets them may not be enough, and guidance becomes the swing factor.
How Loomi traders can approach a week like this
When CPI, PPI and dozens of earnings reports land in four sessions, the hard part is sizing, not direction. Loomi's VIX Gate scales exposure to the volatility regime, so a strategy trades smaller when implied volatility jumps around a release like Wednesday's CPI. The strategy library and its published results show which systems have historically handled event-heavy weeks well, and the Desk brings the earnings calendar, options flow and regime readings into one screen.
What traders can watch (general, not advice)
- Oil vs. core CPI. If Brent stays above $100 while core holds near 2.5%, the Fed has a supply shock rather than a demand problem. The market may price that differently from a broad inflation scare.
- The 10-year yield after CPI. A move back toward the 24-year high would pressure long-duration tech, even with strong chip earnings.
- Bank guidance on Tuesday. Comments on loan demand and credit quality are the earliest real-economy data of the season.
- Event-day volatility. Two macro releases and dozens of reports in four days mean wider ranges. Size positions accordingly.
