Interactive Brokers Lifts Its Dividend as M&T, Travelers and Truist Report Q3

Overnight, Interactive Brokers matched EPS and raised its quarterly dividend 71%. Friday morning brought a regional-bank and insurance slate: M&T beat, Travelers posted strong underwriting and record investment income, Truist showed a messy GAAP print with cleaner adjusted earnings, and Citizens raised its dividend.

Earnings season did not pause for the AI selloff. After the close on Thursday, October 15, 2026, Interactive Brokers delivered another high-margin quarter and a large dividend increase. Before Friday's open, a dense slate of regional banks and insurers — M&T Bank, Travelers, Truist, Citizens Financial and others — gave investors a fresh read on net interest margins, credit and insurance pricing after two hot inflation reports.

The common thread is not a single beat-or-miss narrative. It is how balance-sheet businesses are adapting to higher-for-longer rate odds even as October Fed hike pricing cooled overnight. For the open tape, see our Warsh and futures wrap.

Interactive Brokers: growth, then a dividend catch-up

Interactive Brokers reported third-quarter adjusted earnings of $0.67 per share, matching a FactSet consensus of $0.67 and up from $0.57 a year earlier, MT Newswires said. GAAP diluted EPS was $0.69. Net revenue rose to $1.91 billion from $1.66 billion; adjusted net revenue was $1.87 billion, per the company release carried by Benzinga. Finwire put LSEG revenue consensus near $1.89 billion and adjusted EPS consensus at $0.68, so the print was roughly in line.

The engine was balances more than frantic stock trading. Net interest income rose 19% to $1.15 billion on higher customer margin loans and credit balances. Commission revenue rose 12% to $602 million. Customer accounts increased 35% to 5.58 million, customer equity rose 27% to $964.7 billion and margin loans climbed 36% to $105.2 billion, Yahoo Finance / GuruFocus reported. Pretax margin was 78%, the eighth straight quarter above 70%.

The headline for income investors was the payout. The board raised the quarterly dividend to $0.15 from $0.0875 — a 71% increase, or $0.60 annualized from $0.35 — payable December 14 to holders of record December 1. Chairman Thomas Peterffy said on the call the firm had been aiming for dividends between 0.5% and 1% of market value and had fallen behind. Shares still slipped about 1% premarket Friday as sequential daily average revenue trades fell 11% from the second quarter and stock share volume cooled, Yahoo Finance noted.

M&T Bank: a beat with steady NII

Buffalo-based M&T Bank reported diluted GAAP EPS of $5.04 and net income of $775 million, versus $5.32 and $818 million in the linked quarter and $4.82 a year earlier, according to the company's release. On a net-operating basis, diluted EPS was $5.08, up from $4.87 a year earlier and above a FactSet consensus of $4.95, MT Newswires said. Revenue (net interest income plus noninterest income) was about $2.54 billion versus a $2.53 billion consensus.

Taxable-equivalent net interest income held near $1.805 billion, with net interest margin at 3.65%, down five basis points from the prior quarter as funding costs rose. Average loans grew 2% to $143.3 billion, led by commercial real estate and consumer, and average deposits rose $3.3 billion to $166.8 billion, letting the bank cut average short-term borrowings. CET1 was estimated at 10.16%. Management's fourth-quarter outlook embeds one December rate hike, with taxable-equivalent NII guided to $1.83 billion to $1.85 billion, Benzinga's transcript summary noted.

Travelers: strong underwriting, record investment income

Travelers reported net income of $1.917 billion, or $9.04 per diluted share, and core income of $1.947 billion, or $9.18 per share, for the third quarter, up from $8.24 and $8.14 a year earlier, the company said in its earnings release. Return on equity was 24.7%; core ROE was 22.1%.

Underwriting stayed firm. The consolidated combined ratio was 86.8%, improving half a point from a year earlier, with an underlying combined ratio of 84.1%. Net favorable prior-year reserve development totaled $234 million pre-tax across all three segments, even after a $295 million addition to asbestos reserves. Net written premiums were $11.480 billion. Record net investment income of $1.098 billion pre-tax rose 6%, and the company returned $1.769 billion of capital to shareholders, including $1.508 billion of buybacks. Yahoo Finance noted shares still slipped on higher catastrophe losses in Personal Insurance despite the beat versus Street estimates near $7.35 EPS and $11.30 billion of revenue in Benzinga's calendar.

Truist and Citizens: cleanup versus clean beats

Truist's GAAP print was noisy on purpose. Diluted EPS was $0.56, while adjusted diluted EPS was $1.16, up 12% from $1.04 a year earlier but a touch shy of a FactSet $1.19 consensus, MT Newswires reported. Reported revenue fell to $3.75 billion from $5.19 billion a year earlier because of a Regional Acceptance Corporation loan sale and a large available-for-sale securities repositioning. Adjusted figures exclude roughly $1.4 billion pre-tax of AFS securities losses and RAC-related items, per the company release. Truist also said it signed an agreement on October 14 to sell $7.7 billion of LightStream unsecured consumer loans to Carlyle Group. Shares were down about 1% to 2.5% in early premarket prints.

Citizens Financial Group reported net income of $636 million, up 29% year over year, and EPS of $1.41, up 34% year over year and 8% quarter over quarter, with ROTCE of 15.1% and a 13% dividend increase, according to the company announcement via Benzinga. Separately, J.B. Hunt's overnight report showed revenue up 20% to $3.68 billion but an operating margin down to 6.7% from 7.9% on higher purchased transportation, fuel and insurance costs, MT Newswires said — a reminder that not every top-line beat is a margin story.

How to read the slate after hot inflation

Where Loomi fits

Bank and broker earnings weeks stack catalysts on top of macro surprises. Loomi's options scanner flags unusual activity in names like IBKR, MTB and TRV as prints hit, while GEX regime and VIX Gate help frame whether the index is likely to amplify or fade a financials move. The automated strategies keep entries and exits rules-based when headlines conflict — a beat with a dividend hike trading down, or a GAAP miss that is really a repositioning. Check results and verification for how those rules have behaved. This is education, not a trade ticket.
